Cascade Contras 2012
dance weekend at SKY camp
April 13-15, 2012
Cascade Contras 2012 will feature the wonderful music of
-
The Latter Day Lizards
-
Dave Langford
— fiddle/guitar
Bill Tomczak
— clarinet/saxophone/banjo uke/dumbek
Peter Barnes
— piano/guitar/flute/harmonica
Mark Hellenberg
— percussion/banjo uke
Stuart Kenney — bass/5-string banjo
"Combined, we represent over 60 years of playing for contra dances, english country dance and a variety of miscellaneous musics often related to folk dancing of some sort or another (or not). Every time we played together we consistently had such a great time, we decided to name the band and even record a CD or two. And we're still having a blast!"
-
Joyride
-
George Penk
— fiddle;
Sue Songer
— piano, fiddle;
Erik Weberg
— flute, harmonica, bombarde;
Jeff Kerssen-Griep
— guitar, djembe;
Take a ride with these longtime Portland contra dance musicians as they lock into four-wheel turbo-drive atop the hall. Sue Songer's swinging piano and Jeff Kerssen-Griep's flywheel guitar syncopate the pistons; George Penk's hot fiddle carves expert curves through the tunes while Erik Weberg's fluid flute, punchy harmonica and stunning bombarde season the wild ride. Known from B.C. to the Bay Area for its lift-y arrangements and innovative universe of 'borrowed' (heh heh) Northern and Southern tunes — including a few careening two-fiddle old-time sets — Joyride excels at matching tunes with dance moves for maximum positive zoom. Expect to grin, flow, levitate, swing and howl!

The Springfield Kiwanas Youth camp is located
on a peninsula projecting into Fall Creek Lake near Lowell, Oregon,
about an hour's drive southeast of Eugene.
The facility has space for about 150 people,
including campers, talent, and staffers.
Campers may choose to sleep in three-room modern bunkhouses
(single-sex or mixed),
or bring their own tent, van, or camper.
SKY camp has a central showerhouse shared by all campers.
All campers must pitch in on ONE simple task
(breakfast, lunch, or dinner setup or cleanup, sweeping, etc.)
to help keep camp running smoothly.
While the facility is located on Fall Creek Lake,
it has no dock, pier, or other water amenities.
