SAMPLE – Band and Caller TBD @ The Village School
Sep 11 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm

THIS IS A SAMPLE EVENT.  iT IS ONLY HERE TO SHOW WHAT A CONTRA DANCE ENTRY WILL LOOK LIKE.

The Luddite Ramblers are:

Laurel Stone (fiddle), Craig Shaw (flute, fife, whistle), Jay Finkelstein (guitar).

The band weaves together infectious dance rhythm, enchanting melody and rich harmony, with fiddle, flute and guitar blending to form a single propulsive lyrical dance instrument.

Susan Michaels is a fun and funny caller who specializes in contra dances that flow. Hailing from Vashon Island, Washington, Susan has been calling contras and squares for more than 30 years. She’s called from coast to coast and has taught and called at many dance camps including Lady of the Lake, Chehalis, Pinewoods, and Dare to Be Square East and West. Susan believes it is her “calling” to facilitate the pleasure of the dancers and create joy.

Calling will use non-traditional role terminology (Larks & Robins)

Find out more about attending at the Eugene Contra page.

A potluck will be at 5:30 pm at a contra dancer’s home – NOT at the dance venue.

SAMPLE – Event, Band and Caller to be determined @ The Village School
Sep 25 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm

THIS IS A SAMPLE EVENT.  iT IS ONLY HERE TO SHOW WHAT A CONTRA DANCE ENTRY WILL LOOK LIKE.

The Quarks are an exciting new Northwest band with Betsy Branch on fiddle and guitar, Bill Tomczak on clarinet, saxophone and percussion, and Terry Wergeland on piano and accordion. Betsy and Terry have played together for dances since 1994, and when Bill moved to Portland in 2012, he was thrilled to join forces with them. With their mix of instruments and improvisatory natures, you never know what to expect from this trio. Their delight in playing together translates to the dance floor, and you are likely to hear plenty of laughter from the stage. When not playing, the three of them love to pontificate about the mysteries of the universe (like how 3 quarks form a particle), thus inspiring the band name.

A long-time caller from Bellingham, Marlin Prowell is well-known for his clear teaching and confident selection of dances. In addition to fine contras, Marlin calls many other formations including squares, and can lead dancers through delightful evenings. An extremely versatile caller and dance organizer, Marlin has called at many dance camps throughout the Pacific Northwest and also for the techno-contras in Seattle.

Calling will use traditional/non-traditional role terminology. (TBD – will be updated the week before the dance)

2022 Cascade Contras Dance Weekend @ Cascade Camp
Oct 21 – Oct 23 all-day

We’ve reluctantly made the decision to postpone Cascade Contras Dance Weekend until October 2022 to be certain our dance community will not risk of exposure to lingering COVID-19. infections. Callers will be Susan Michaels and Michael Karcher. Registration will open June 1, 2022.

Cascade Contras will be held at Skycamp located in the Cascade Mountains 25 miles outside Eugene, Oregon.
