Covid Policy

posted in: Dances | 0

The following policies regarding Covid are intended to keep our community and dancers as safe, happy and healthy as possible. Participation in contra dance while COVID is still in the community carries not only the typical risks associated with a physical activity, but also increased risk of exposure to the COVID virus. This policy is subject to change. Updated April 18, 2022 by the Board of Directors of the Eugene Folklore Society.

  • COVID is highly transmissible and can cause severe illness, long-term health complications, and/or death.
  • COVID is spread through person-to-person contact, through airborne droplets exhaled by an infected person, even without any apparent symptoms of infection.
  •  Vaccines are safe, widely available, and highly effective at protecting individuals against severe illness, hospitalization, and death resulting from COVID-19. However, vaccination does not provide complete protection from contracting and transmitting the virus.
  • People at higher risk of severe illness from COVID or who are in regular contact with someone at higher risk are advised to not attend contra dances at this time.
  • Contra dancing involves physical exertion and close contact with many people and is therefore associated with greater risk of viral transmission than other common activities.
  • An maximum attendance capacity will be maintained
  • Unscented hand sanitizer will be available at the dance
  • Dancers should wash their hands regularly
  • Dance venues will be ventilated
  • Chairs will be set up to allow for physical distancing
  • Bands and callers may be unmasked on stage and will be away from dancers

To help protect our community the following will be required of all dancers:

  1. Register before entering a dance hall and agree to all conditions for attendance.
  2. Provide an email address for contact tracing if needed (gathered at registration).
  3. Bring identification (driver’s license or government-issued ID)
  4. Bring proof of full vaccination, including a booster when eligible.
    • Full vaccination is 2 doses of Pfizer or Moderna mRNA or 1 dose of Johnson & Johnson.
    • Booster eligibility may vary but is currently 5 months after the second dose of Pfizer or Moderna, or 2 months after the single dose of Johnson & Johnson. Additional boosters may be required depending on health authority recommendations.
    • Proof of vaccination can be the physical card or a legible photo
    • We will not keep a record of your vaccination card, but with your permission we will add you to our list of pre-verified attendees who need only show ID in the future
  1. Wear a well-fitted mask which covers your nose and mouth while in the building, unless actively drinking water. Bring your own mask(s). Increased breathing may result in a moist mask; consider bringing an extra/replacement. ( K/N95/KF94 is preferred, or double masking with a medical & cloth mask)
  2. Sign the EFS Covid related waiver
  3. Be mindful of others’ variable comfort levels, especially with respect to personalspace and level of touch (e.g., allow for different types of swings).
  4. Consider taking a COVID test before attending if you have recently traveled.
  5. Stay home if you feel ill; we reserved the right to ask anyone experiencing symptoms to leave a dance.
  6. Please notify the us if you have a positive COVID test within 10 days after attending a dance
