Safety Precautions
- Only fully vaccinated people will be allowed to attend the dance.
- We will check your vaccination card when you enter. We will be retaining the information so we will not need to check your card at each subsequent dance.
- All in attendance must remain masked during the event while indoors, except when actually drinking water.

Band: The Hat Band
The Hat Band is a Portland contradance band that includes Carol Ann Wheeler, fiddle; Jon Neff, guitar; and Syd Newell, fiddle. Carol Ann played classical violin for 20 years, then switched to fiddle in the 70s. She has published instructional fiddle materials since 1990 with Mel Bay Publications, and for 20 years was half of the duo Pickin’ & Fiddlin’ with John Standefer. Jon is an IT specialist; he has been involved in many related areas of music since his college years, playing guitar, mandolin, bass, and other stringy things. Syd is a retired technical writer and former chemistry professor; she was classically trained on violin but has been playing fiddle for dancers since 2006. All three are members of the Portland Megaband. The Hat Band plays for contra dancing and other events throughout Oregon and Washington.
Caller: Shell Stowell
Shell Stowell started contra dancing in 2015, and has been dancing up and down the West Coast ever since. Driven by her passion for the dance, music, and community, Shell now plays the fiddle and helps to organize the Corvallis Contra Weekend. As a dancer, Shell is known for her enthusiasm on and off the dance floor. As a caller, she incorporates her love of teaching, organizing, and music to strive for clear, energetic instruction and variety in her programming. Shell also emphasizes safe, inclusive dance etiquette that promotes positive communication between dancers.
- Admission: $12-$20 non-members; $10-$20 for EFS members; $8 students
- Beginners lesson starts at 7:00pm (experienced dancers welcome). Each dance is taught.
- Dance starts at 7:30pm. No partner necessary (it’s traditional to dance each dance with a different partner)
- Calling will use gender-neutral terminology
